For The Great Rhino Robbery, a Sky Original documentary that shows how thieves started stealing rhino horns from museums and auction houses in a bizarrely British crime wave that swept the country. The goal was to craft cinematic key art that captured the show’s suspense and investigative edge, while ensuring standout appeal across formats.
The creative process began with deep research into the show’s themes - the tension between beauty and brutality, the international scale of the crime and the documentary’s sharp, investigative lens. I explored multiple visual approaches to emphasise secrecy, wealth and danger.
The chosen direction took inspiration from classic heist films to reflect the documentary’s tone, originally centring the rhino horn as a symbolic focal point. However, feedback highlighted the need for a more emotional connection, leading to the final execution featuring a full rhino head to bring empathy and urgency to the crime at the heart of the story.
Working alongside the retoucher in the final stages, the artwork was carefully graded, with additional polish added to lighting and laser effects, ensuring it was visually striking and adaptable across digital platforms.
